Julia Roberts and New Movie Eat Pray Love

Julia Roberts ,Georgia native, was raised in a theater environment by her acting and writing parents.  One of her most successful box office films to date, Pretty Woman, a romantic comedy film grossed $464 million worldwide.  In 2001 Julia was bestowed the Academy Award for Best Actress as Erin Brockovich where a successful lawsuit was waged against polluter Pacific Gas & Electric.  Her latest movie, Eat Pray Love is scheduled in theaters August 13th based on the book by Elizabeth Gilbert describing her journey of soul searching and self discovery.

Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Betty(Bredemus) and Walter Roberts on October 28, 1967.  Her parents, actors and playwrights, met while performing in armed forces productions and later they co-founded the Atlanta Actors and Writers Workshop.   Before Julia’s birth her parents ran an acting school for children in Decatur, Georgia where the children of  Martin Luther King, Jr and Coretta Scott King attended their school.  In 1972 Roberts mother divorced and moved Julia and her older brother Eric and sister Lisa  to Smyrna, Georgia, an Atlanta suburb.   Here Roberts attended elementary, middle school and went to Campbell High School.  After high school  graduation Julia went to New York to join  her brother Eric and sister Lisa Roberts Gillan to pursue an acting career.  In the big apple she signed with the Click modeling agency and started acting classes.      

Julia Roberts is one of the largest female movie ticket draws and in her career starting with Blood Red(1989) she has experienced all levels of film performance, numerous nominations, Golden Globe and Academy awards.  Roberts first Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress was for her performance as a young bride with diabetes in Steel Magnolias(1989).  Pretty Woman in 1990 made Julia a household name where her co-star was Richard Gere. For her work in this film she garned a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress.  Pretty Woman had a phenomenal worldwide gross of $464 million which was record breaking in 1990. 

In 2001 her performance in Erin Brockovich earned the first Academy Award for Best Actress and her second Golden Globe for Best Actress.  Brockovich was a staunch environmentialist who took on Pacific Gas and Electric and won.  For her outstanding performance in Erin Brockovich Julia received a laundry list of additional awards.  Julia collected additional Golden Globe nominations: Best Supporting Actress in Charlie Wilson’s War(2007) and award for Best Actress in in Duplicity(2009).

Julia Roberts current film, Eat Pray Love is scheduled to open in theaters August 13th.  This movie is based on the book by Elizabeth Gilbert where she lays out her spiritual year of soul searching  and self discovery traveling to Italy, India and Indonesia.    Gilbert’s book has been on the New York Times Best Seller list for over 180 weeks as of July 2010.  The script for the film was written by Gilbert and co-author by director Ryan Murphy.  Filming locations for Eat Pray Love were New York City, Naples(Italy), Pataudi(India) and Bali(Indonesia).  In addition to Roberts the movie stars include Javier Bardem, James Franco and Viola Davis.

On the personal side Roberts was first married to Lyle Lovett, a country singer on June 27th 1993 and in March 1995 they separated and divorced later.  Julia Roberts met her current husband, Daniel Moder, on the set of her movie The Mexican in 2000.  When they met Moder was married to Vera Steimberg Moder and he later  filed for and receive a divorce  to marry Roberts on July 4, 2002 at her Taos, New Mexico ranch.  They have three children: fraternal twins Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter were born November 28, 2004 and Henry Daniel was born June 18th, 2007.  On the philanthropic side Roberts devotes time and resources to UNICEF and other charities.  In the environmental area Roberts has taken on the roll of spokes-women for Earth Biofuels, a renewable energy source. 

Julia Roberts fashion styles extend the range of Giorgio Armani, Valentino and Yves Saint Laurent, Lavin, Calvin Klein, Isaac Mizrahi plus other designers where she has modeled their gowns on her numerous red carpet visits.  Julia sparked the 1990′s trend for thigh high boots in Pretty Woman and Guess What?  The thigh high women’s boot trend is in full swing for Fall 2010.  In 2010 Roberts was named the global ambassador for L’Oreal make up brand Lancome.
