Angelina Jolie has been extremely busy with her new movie “Salt” in theatres July 23. Jolie plays an American spy, CIA Officer Evelyn Salt accused by a defector of being a Russian Spy.
At the premier of Brad Pitt’s movie “Inglourious Basterds” Angelina was simply beautiful in a Michael Kors black leather dress. Jolie is one of our favorite celebrities that enjoys wearing Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren and other haute fashion designers.
She was born Angelina Jolie Voight on June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California.  Jolie parents are actors Marcheline Bertrand, deceased, and Jon Voight. Her ancestry on the Bertrand side is French Canadian and on the Voight side is Slovak and German.
After a brief sojourn as a fashion model working mainly in New York, Los Angeles and London she returned to the theater at the age of 16.  Her first film break was when she played a leading role as Casella “Cash” Reese in “Cyborg 2″ where Reese was a near human robot. From 1995 to 1997 she appeared in her first Hollywood picture “Hackers” where she was introduced to her first husband, British actor Jonny Lee Miller. They married March 28, 1996 and divorced one year later. Â
Jolie won a Golden Globe Award and was nominated for an Emmy for her performance as Cornelia Wallace in the 1997 “George Wallace”. Her role was the second wife of the segregationist Governor of Alabama.  She starred in Mike Newell’s “Pushing Tin” (1999) co-starring with Billy Bob Thorton, Cate Blanchett and John Cusack.  In this comedy-drama she played Thorton’s seductive wife. On this movie set she met her second husband, Billy Bob Thorton and they were married on May 5, 2000. After a three year marriage the couple divorced in May 2003.
Angelina’s next role, a supporting one, she played sociopath Lisa Rowe in “Girl, Interrupted” (1999). Winona Ryder played the main character, mental patient Susanna Kaysen. For her outstanding performance in this film Jolie won her third Golden Globe and her second Screen Actors Guild Award and an Academy Award for best Supporting Actress.  Next major role launched her reputation as a female action star where she played Lara Croft in “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”.  This 2001 film made her an international superstar where she had to master a British accent and do extensive martial arts training to play Laura Croft. This movie was a huge international success grossing $275 million worldwide.
In 2005 Jolie and Brad Pitt star in one of the largest grossing films of the year bringing in $478 million worldwide. They co-starred in “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” directed by Doug Liman.  The story is of a bored married coupe who find out they are both secret assassins. On this set is where Jolie and Pitt struck up their relationship according to the celebrity media.  At the time Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston. In April of 2005 Aniston filed for divorce from Brad Pitt.  In January of 2006 Jolie confirmed to People that she was pregnant with Pitt’s child and confirmed their relationship.
More recent Angelina Jolie films include Robert De Niro’s “The Good Shepard”(2006) and she made her directorial debut in “A Place in Time”(2007) which was screened at the Tribeca Film Festival. Jolie starred in “A Mighty Heart”(2007) where she played Mariane Pearl wife of Wall Street reporter Daniel Pearl who was kidnapped and killed in Pakistan. This film garnered her a fourth Golden Globe Award and a third Screen Actors Guild Award nomination. In 2008 Jolie played Christine Collins in Clint Eastwood’s drama “Changeling” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. For her lead role she received a second Academy Award nomination and was nominated for a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, and the Screen Actors Guild Award.  Jolie’s  latest film “Salt”(2010) is mentioned in the introduction to this piece.
In addition to acting Jolie is a global U.N. Goodwill Ambassador and mother of six. Maddox(Cambodia), Pax(Vietnam) and Zahara(Ethiopia) are adopted by Brad and Angelina. Shiloh plus twins Knox and Vivenne are from the family partnership of Angelina and Brad. After Angelina’s first trip to a refugee camp she became committed to doing her part to aid the world wide refugee situation. Over the past four years she has served as the U.N. Goodwill Ambassador traveling around the world taking up the plight of refugee childern.  Angelina and Brad have made generous monetary donations to numerous refugee and conservation causes around the world. In 2003 Jolie was the first recipient of the Citizen of the World Award by the United Nations Correspondents Association and in 2005 she was awarded the Global Humanitarian Award by the UNA-USA. On July 6, 2010 Angelina Jolie accepted the United Nations Global Humanitarian Action Award.
